A new scientific study on the treatment of breast cancer

A NEW SCIENTIFIC STUDY ON THE TREATMENT OF BREAST CANCER MADE BY THE SURGICAL-DIAGNOSTIC TEAM OF “M. C. AESCULAP”

Recently, the medical scientific journal Frontiers in Oncology has published a scientific study by Prof. Dr. Nebojša Ivanović and co-authors, under the title: Changing the role of pCR in breast cancer treatment – an unjustifiable interpretation of a good prognostic factor as a “factor for a good prognosis”.
The study proves that the recommendations of the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) on mandatory complete implementation of preoperative (neoadjuvant) breast cancer chemotherapy before surgery are harmful for a significant percentage of patients. The authors conclude that a delay of several months in the surgical removal of cancer tissue from the body (while chemotherapy is being administered) reduces the probability of a final cure, especially for patients whose cancer does not respond or poorly responds to chemotherapy.

The recommendation of the authors of the study is the surgical removal of cancer tissue from the body in the earliest phase of treatment when it is surgically feasible, after patient’s informed consent on the expected results of surgical treatment. This is an attitude that the „Aesculap“ surgical team already applies as a standard of care in the breast cancer treatment.

The study proves that the recommendations of the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) on mandatory complete implementation of preoperative (neoadjuvant) breast cancer chemotherapy before surgery are harmful for a significant percentage of patients.

In the first few weeks of its publication, our study had hundreds of views and dozens of “downloads”, which is rare occurrence for scientific works of this type and level. It is also a rarity in scientific society to express gratitude for the presented arguments through direct communication. In an email sent to prof. Dr. Ivanović, Dr. Mangesh Thorat, director of oncoplastic surgery at the famous Guy’s Hospital in London, has thanked for the published scientific work.

Excerpt from Dr. Thorat’s email:

„Dear Dr. Ivanovic, …it was a pleasure to see the arguments you make. Thank you for putting these views in the public domain“.
